Easily Fix The Computer Restarts By Itself Error – How To Guide

Are you noticing that your computer restarts by itself without notice?
What causes the Computer to Restart by itself?

  • Your computer may have been tagged with a virus
  • You could be experiencing problems with the device driver.
  • Recently installed programs could be conflicting with your Windows operating system.
  • Your Windows OS needs to be upgraded.
  • Hardware in your machine could be failing.
  • There may be corrupted files in the Windows registry.

How can you solve this problem?

  1. Check for viruses. Always make sure that your anti-virus scanner is turned on at all times and ensure virus definitions are updated regularly. Most systems today do this automatically, but viruses may still enter if your system does not have the latest definitions. You can usually download these from the manufacturer’s website.
  2. Remove newly installed programs. A new application could, for some reason or another, be conflicting with your Windows OS. It could be bad code from the new program or updates needed for the OS.  One-by-one, try removing any new programs and test for the problem.
  3. Install Windows service packs. Service packs are designed to address any bugs encountered by Windows users. Installing these updates will resolve any errors that may have been reported by other users. Visit Microsoft’s site to get more information.
  4. Troubleshoot Hardware. A computer that starts by itself could be a sign that hardware is failing: hard drive, memory, power supply or fan. If your system excessively overheats, your system will automatically restart. Make sure to clean air vents as this causes the system to overheat. Check to see if your computer’s warranty is still valid and bring it in for maintenance if still covered.
Even though doing these 4 tips can help, it’s certainly not a guaranteed fix. To guarentee a fix, you’ll have to do the following:
Clean the registry. Corrupted or invalid files could be causing your system to start by itself. You can try diagnosing the problem by manually going into the registry. We don’t recommend this unless you are a certified technician. Any misconfiguration or removal of needed system files will leave you with a non-operating computer.
The other option is to use a utility designed to fix bad or corrupted files in the registry. The great thing about these utilities is that it does all the work for you and more. If it finds that any system files are missing, it will automatically install it for you. And, it will clean out accumulated garbage from your system. This will immensely improve the computer’s performance.

I can’t stress this enough, make a backup of your registry, before you do any type of work on it. You can go to the backup if any problems were experienced during maintenance. Microsoft has documented articles that explain the whole process.
